The New York Giants announced on Tuesday that they are hiring veteran coach Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator under new head coach John Harbaugh, according to multiple league and team sources. The 47-year-old Nagy will be tasked with leading the development of second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart and shaping the Giants’ offensive strategy for the upcoming 2026 NFL season.
Matt Nagy, who spent the past three seasons as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs and previously held that role in 2017, brings more than a decade of NFL coaching experience to New York. He also served as head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021, compiling a 34-31 record and earning AP Coach of the Year honors in 2018.
In joining the Giants, Nagy reunites with Harbaugh within the coaching ranks. Harbaugh, hired by New York after an 18-season tenure with the Baltimore Ravens, has outlined an offensive rebuild around Dart, who threw 15 touchdown passes and rushed for nine more as a rookie. The Giants finished the 2025 campaign ranked 13th in total offense and fifth in rushing, an area Nagy will aim to build upon.
Matt Nagy opportunity in New York follows an offseason in which he sought head coaching roles around the NFL but did not secure a vacancy as teams filled their coaching openings. His contract with Kansas City expired after the Chiefs’ 2025 season, and the Chiefs rehired Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator.
Harbaugh and the Giants reportedly considered several other candidates for the offensive coordinator position, including coaches with head-coaching experience, before settling on Nagy. In outlining his vision for the offense, Harbaugh has emphasized the need for experienced play-calling and quarterback development.
Matt Nagy hiring completes the core of Harbaugh’s coaching staff, with Dennard Wilson leading the defense and Chris Horton overseeing special teams. Nagy will formally begin his duties as the Giants prepare for offseason programs, with the goal of improving the club’s offensive efficiency and sustaining competitive play in the NFC East.
