MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins have hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as their next general manager, the team announced Friday, marking a major leadership change for the NFL franchise following a disappointing 2025 season. Sullivan, previously vice president of player personnel with the Green Bay Packers, agreed to terms after in-person interviews this week, according to league and team officials.

Sullivan’s hiring comes shortly after the Dolphins parted ways with longtime general manager Chris Grier in October and fired head coach Mike McDaniel following a 7-10 finish that left Miami outside the playoff picture for a second straight year.

Sullivan brings more than two decades of NFL front-office experience to Miami. He began his career with the Packers in 2003 as a scouting intern and rose through roles including college scout, director of college scouting, co-director of player personnel, and, most recently, vice president of player personnel, a position he held since 2022.

Team chairman Stephen M. Ross said in a brief statement that Sullivan’s track record of talent evaluation and organizational leadership made him the right choice to lead the Dolphins’ football operations. The team will now transition to Sullivan’s strategic vision for roster construction and long-term competitiveness. Officials did not disclose contract terms.

Sullivan’s first major responsibility will be guiding Miami’s search for a new head coach to replace McDaniel, with league sources confirming that interviews for that role are expected in the coming weeks. The general manager will also face decisions on the futures of key players, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, whose performance and contract have been focal points in offseason planning.

Sullivan is the son of NFL and college coaching veteran Jerry Sullivan, who retired in 2021 after more than 40 years in the sport and once served as the Dolphins’ wide receivers coach, a connection team officials noted as symbolic of a full-circle moment in Sullivan’s career.

The Dolphins will begin the formal transition immediately, with Sullivan expected to relocate to South Florida and begin assembling his executive staff ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft and coaching hires. The story is developing.
