MANILA, Philippines — Colombian professional tennis player Camila Osorio progressed to the Round of 16 at the Philippine Women’s Open on Monday, defeating Japanese qualifier Sakura Hosogi 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the WTA 125 tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, according to match reports.
Osorio, seeded fifth in the event, used her higher ranking and experience to control key moments against Hosogi, who was making her main-draw debut on the women’s tour. The Colombian broke serve early in both sets and maintained a consistent baseline attack to secure the straight-sets win.
The 24-year-old from Cúcuta, Colombia, has previously reached a career-high world No. 33 in the WTA rankings and won three singles titles on the professional tour, including multiple victories at her home WTA 250 event in Bogotá. Her performance in Manila follows earlier season matches, including a rain-affected encounter with Emma Raducanu at the Hobart International where she exited in the first round.
Camila Osorio victory keeps her on track in the Philippine Women’s Open draw, where she will face another opponent in the Round of 16 later this week. Tournament officials confirmed the schedule will be updated following the conclusion of other second-round matches.
A former junior world No. 1 and 2019 US Open girls’ singles champion, Osorio continues to build on her experience on the WTA Tour as she seeks further success in 2026 events.
